Two-Week #Keto Challenge… It’s almost over.

If you’ve been following along you know I’ve been doing a keto diet for the past two weeks.  I was hoping to update more frequently but this week was rather busy, and there really wasn’t much to report.  I figured you didn’t need to see three days worth of posts that say “I’m not really hungry but I REALLY want a bag of potato chips.”


Well, I did it.  In a couple of hours the two weeks will be up and I will have avoided carbs and sugar for two weeks.  Yes.

I will admit that the cravings were strong.  I’ve done this before and weathered it without any major cravings, but this time was different.  I’m chalking it up to the fact that I was dealing with that-time-of-the-month, so I guess I should be pretty proud that I didn’t give in and eat any chocolate.


Some days I went over a little on my carbs, but they were all good carbs, so I’m not fretting too much.  I also discovered the joy of Mikey’s English Muffins, which are a godsend when you’re dying for bread.  They are made with almond and coconut flour and are very low carb, sugar-free, gluten-free, and paleo.  They were the reason I didn’t fail the challenge with a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich from McDonald’s.


I do feel a bit better.  My asthma is less obstructive just from cutting out the carbs and sugar for 2 weeks,  If I can keep going, I can only imagine how good I’ll feel.

I’m not gonna lie and tell you it was easy, or that I didn’t feel tired initially, or that I wasn’t ever hungry or that I didn’t crave junk food.  Of course, I did.  But I will tell you that as time went on, all of those things got a little better or a little easier. The call of the pizza and sugar and bar food and general junk became quieter and quieter.  And this was only two weeks.  After two more, it will get even easier.

My goal now is to do a cycling keto/low carb, where I allow a day each week where I eat carbs, albeit sensibly.  Sweets are still off the table, at least for now, but the occasional potato or sweet potato might find its way onto my menu.

Well, I’m tired and don’t have much else to say for tonight.  Tomorrow morning is the official weigh-in after the two weeks of keto so I will update you as soon as I step off the scale.  However, judging from the numbers over the past two weeks, we might be looking at a loss greater than five pounds.  w00t.
